Alima Bello, founder of the brand was raised in a working class home which nurtured and shaped her entrepreneurial skills from an early age. As a first born child, it was expected of her to graduate from business school and work in the family - owned oil mill and refinery. To which she dutifully complied but then yielded to a stronger desire to pursue her own path and explore her creativity.

She attributes her Nigerian and Ghanaian heritage as playing a major role in her flair for aesthetics and started designing and creating clothes for her family and friends in 2008.
In 2010, she took some time off to study fashion designing and pattern drafting in order to further develop her passion. Her first collection was debuted in June 2014;  and in Nov. 2017 she opened the doors to the brand’s flagship store.

She has a strong conviction to encourage and participate in manufacturing within the continent to contribute towards the growth of the fashion and creative industry.

“My career in fashion was born out of necessity. I grew up in a city where it was difficult to find a style aesthetic I could relate to. I needed to be different. I needed clothes that were straight to the point. No fuss. And thus, Bello Edu was born”..
